The Txabarri neighbourhood, located in the Spanish city of Sestao, introduced a new multifunctional space designed for various sport and leisure activities: the El Sol park.
Its refurbishment was executed within a wider program of redevelopment, promoted by the famous company Sestao Berri, which involved the whole neighbourhood.
This articulate and complex project enabled the realization of public areas where people can sport, sheltered from rain and bad weather. Specifically, an area marked out by a gable end in a length of 29 metres wholly glazed in polycarbonate was created.
The self-supporting flat system SystemPiù in multiwall polycarbonate in a thickness of 16mm and in opal colour was installed to build this architectural element.
SystemPiù guarantees a perfect water tightness and a remarkable withstand capacity to wind pressure thanks to the steel jointing profile, which enables the clipping of the panels and tie them up steadily to the main structure.
This anchoring method allows for the free expansion of the polycarbonate sheet during changes in temperature, thus preventing from material tensioning.
The high flexibility of the system made it perfectly fit to the shape of the façade to be glazed, cutting off on site both panels and profiles to follow the roofing edge.
The translucency of the material also favours the passage of natural daylight underneath the roof coverings, as well as an outstanding visual impact during night time thanks to the backlightning.
