They say that first impressions are what count, and indeed standing in front of the Langreo Sports Center one is enraptured by its curves and how perfectly it integrates into its ‘surroundings.
Designed by architect Javier Perez Uribarri of ACXT Arquitects in Madrid, this sports and leisure center is part of the redevelopment of the protected territory of the Cuenca Mineras mining based in Asturias.
The idea behind the project is to construct a harmonious, almost organic building, far from the commonplace forms of a typical sports building.
The complex consists of three buildings that stand out against the surrounding area, the architectural form reminiscent of the hills of the valley, a series of “green waves” with different heights.
These buildings house inside ‘rooms for the practice of various sports disciplines, but also rooms for the aggregation and well-being of frequent visitors. From the outside, one gets the impression that the walls rise directly from the ground itself.
The upper part of the facades was made with the modular interlocking system of Panelpiù 500 multiwall polycarbonate in the thickness of 20 mm in neutral color, which is ideal for vertical curtain walls due to its excellent light transmittance characteristics and thermal insulating properties.
Thanks to the elimination of unsightly joint profiles, light penetrates the building homogeneously illuminating the spacious rooms with all the necessary comforts to perform sports activities to the fullest.
