In the heart of the Port of Naples, within the historic maritime station designed by Cesare Bazzani, Smart Hotel Napoli has opened its doors—a hotel that offers a contemporary take on the concept of urban hospitality. With 63 rooms overlooking the sea, advanced digital systems, and a strong focus on sustainability, the hotel stands as one of the most innovative projects in Naples’ hospitality scene.
Designed by Gnosis Progetti in collaboration with the engineers at Ellemme, the project combines design, technology, and comfort across more than 2,000 square meters of space overlooking the cruise port. From smart home management of the rooms via app to digital check-in via smartphone, to energy-efficient lighting and the elimination of single-use plastic, every element has been designed to reduce environmental impact and enhance the guest experience. It is no coincidence that the facility has earned the European Ecolabel certification, a recognition awarded to buildings with high environmental performance.
A distinctive feature of the project is the common areas, reimagined not merely as transit spaces but as places for connection and social interaction. The corridors are thus transformed into multifunctional spaces that house a modular 60-seat meeting room, a relaxation area, the breakfast room, and the Molo 10 bistro, which offers a panoramic view of the port of Naples.
In this project, multiwall polycarbonate plays a key role in defining the identity of the spaces. The material was used to create three striking boxes in shades of blue, orange, and neutral tones, which help to define the spaces through lightweight, semi-transparent surfaces that filter light and enhance the perception of space.
The same material language continues in the cladding of the curved walls flanking the staircases, rendered in blue and bronze, and in the opal-finished pillars. Both elements are backlit, transforming into luminous backdrops that help create an immersive and contemporary atmosphere.
Thanks to its ability to diffuse light evenly, its structural lightness, and its sustainable qualities, multiwall polycarbonate reinforces the project’s technological and ecological character, harmonizing with the minimalist aesthetic of the interiors. The result is an environment that combines visual comfort, material innovation, and design, making the material an integral part of the architectural experience and hospitality.
