AKK Architects for interiors at Milan Fuori Salone 2023
AKK Architects, with the creativity of Annabel Karim Kassar, used 6 mm thick Ondapiù panels in yellow to create this multi-level labyrinth that challenges visitors to reconsider their position within the natural order: the work entitled Cabinet de Curiosités.
Kassar’s creation derives from the Cabinet de Curiosités of the 16th century, where people collected random objects from the natural world to display them in “wunderkammer”. Similarly in this installation, the viewer is invited to explore this intricate geometric space from different angles and heights, personally discovering the visual and emotional patterns that emerge from this seemingly random installation.
The project, based on Kassar’s previous work that included a contemporary staircase-library within a traditional Ottoman house under renovation in Beirut, has evolved into a large modular structure that combines plywood and acrylic honeycomb panels with polycarbonate. This installation occupies a space of 6.8 x 5.8 metres and was realised by Imola Legno, Bencore and PolyPiù for the Salone del Mobile 2023 in the courtyard of the University of Milan.
